  1. 1867: The family of William T. Tinsley (1833-1893), age 34; and Emma Julia Guiteau (Tinsley) (1838-1882), age 29. Children (left to right): Henry Greenwood Tinsley (1861-1920), age 6; Caroline Hannah "Carrie" Tinsley (Hill) (1865-1940), age 2; Marion Emma "Minnie" Tinsley (Leach) (1863-1939), age 4; and Ella Frances "Nellie" Tinsley (Sherwood) (1867-1960), age under 1 year. The portrait, painted in 1861 and owned today by JAM (1945- ), is of Frederick William "Freddie" Tinsley (1859-1861) at age 2.
  2. about 1885: Emma Laura Tinsley (1880-1948), age about 5; with "Cousin Electa," Electa Lawrence (b.abt.1840), age about 45. Cousin Electa was a niece of Emily Redfield (Guiteau, Barnes) (1813-1903), and Emma's first cousin once removed. Emma's mother, Emma Julia Guiteau (Tinsley) (1838-1882), died when Emma was two years old. Emma went to live with Cousin Electa until she was about eight, around 1888, after her father William T. Tinsley (1833-1893) was married (in 1885) to Hannah Rogers (Taft, Tinsley) (1844-1932).
  3. About 1887: William Redfield "Willie" Tinsley (1874-1887), age about 12 or 13. Eighth child of William T. Tinsley (1833-1893). Willie died at age 13 from playing with his father's gun and accidentally shooting himself. The Tinsley children #6 and #7, Edith May Tinsley (2 Apr 1870 - 8 Apr 1870) and Mary Harriet Guiteau Tinsley (5 Jun 1872 - 11 Feb 1873), died in infancy. Harriet Mary Ray (Merrill) (1909-1978) in her autobiography mentions the pictures of "dead babies," but Harriet's son JAM (1945-) doesn't know what happened to those pictures. Child #9 is Jonathan's grandmother Emma Laura Tinsley (Ray) (1880-1948).
  4. About 1890: Henry Greenwood Tinsley (1861-1920), age about 30. Second child of William T. Tinsley (1833-1893).
  5. 1897: Emma Laura Tinsley (1880-1948), age 17, high school graduation, Lyons Union School. Emma is the first girl on the left, near the man's left shoulder.
  6. About 1900: Marion Emma "Minnie" Tinsley (Leach) (1863-1939), age about 37. Third child of William T. Tinsley (1833-1893). From a group photograph.
  7. About 1900: Caroline Hannah "Carrie" Tinsley (Hill) (1865-1940), age about 35. Fourth child of William T. Tinsley (1833-1893). From a group photograph. The Tinsley children were never known by anything but their nicknames, as was apparently the custom. DWM (1938- ) has a second cousin through Carrie, in Arizona.
  8. About 1900: Ella Frances "Nellie" Tinsley (Sherwood) (1867-1960), age about 32. Fifth child of William T. Tinsley (1833-1893). From a group photograph. DWM (1938- ) has two second cousins through Nellie, one in Rochester, NY and one in Poway, CA, near San Diego.
  9. about 1915: Emma Laura Tinsley (Ray) (1880-1948), age about 35.
  10. 1935: Emma Laura Tinsley (Ray) (1880-1948), age 55.
